In August 2007, the Mahon Ranch was designated a “California Heritage Ranch” by the State of California during ceremonies at the California State Fair in Sacramento.

In October 2007, the initiative to restore pieces of farm equipment on the Ranch was launched with the restoration of a 1950’s era John Deere wagon.  The wagon has since not only been put into daily productive use on the Ranch but has served as the means of transportation for several hayride tours of the Ranch.

In December 2007 Liz Romero, a junior at Elk Grove High School, and a member of the Future Farmers of America, was named 2008 recipient of  a project steer from the Lester B. Mahon Memorial Scholarship Fund.  We are most excited for Liz and look forward to her participation and success at the Sacramento County Fair in May 2008.

On September 27, 2008, the gardens and Victorian home of the Mahon Ranch will be featured in the annual Elk Grove Historical Society “Historic Home and Garden Tour”.  Check the Society’s web site for further details.

In February 2008, in cooperation with the local Boy Scouts of America and the Elk Grove High School FFA program, the Ranch initiated a Wood Duck study which involves youth of these programs building, situating and monitoring Wood Duck nests on the Ranch within the watershed of Deer Creek.

We understand the importance of protecting the earth and conserving the resources.
